LG Nourse and JC Solmonese: Sensory Supplies for Inclusion Students
Norton Public Schools are all about inclusion, and NEED is delighted to be able to grant the wishes of the JCS and LGN Inclusion staff, Emily Teixeira, Lauren Small, Danielle Carriere, and Emily Ducharme.
The grant included visual timers, wiggly seats cushions of various sizes, fidget bands, weighted lap pads, wobble chairs, clear plastic screens, sensory sand, and a mobile standing desk.

When is it OK to cut up your favorite picture books? When you're turning them into Story Walks, of course!
Wish granted for the LGN and JCS staff of Julie Durmis, Rachel Young, Amanda Weeden, and Jennifer Farley, who received supplies to create weather proof Story Walks for both schools!
The grant included a picture books, laminating supplies, wooden stakes, heavy duty velcro, cardstock, and a laminator to create these magical story walks.

A space for kids to de-stress and focus on the social, emotional, and behavioral skills needed to succeed in school. Granted to Miss Jensen at the Norton Middle School.
STEP Program Business Center
A collaborative work space for kids and teachers in the STEP community to create and organize for their projects. Granted to Miss Sullivan at the Norton Middle School.

Fruits of Collaboration- Norton High School
An ADA-compliant garden set up, maintained, and harvested by Norton High Students. Submitted by Ms. Marchilena, Mr. Shield, Miss Sweed, Miss Iozzi, and the Science Honors Society at Norton High.
Recess Play for All Children - JCS Elementary
Accessible Playground accessories and activities to provide an inclusive playground experience. Granted to Miss Hodgson, Miss Adams, and Miss Taylor at the JCS Elementary School.

This program will go into effect in science classes next year for all 4th and 5th graders and will be a great supplement to their current curriculum. The HAY PTO was so generous in offering to fund this grant request! Because the HAY PTO funded this grant for us, NEED was able to put the extra money towards funding one of the other above mentioned grants. April 4th, 2016 Susan Cashton - Technology Teacher LGN/HAY "Students have enjoyed using the headsets in the HAY computer lab. I have seen a large improvement in successful completion of the keyboarding program Type to Learn 4 due to student ability to listen to personalized instruction as they learn to type. I have over 90 students that will finish the program by the end of this year. Students are currently using the recording function on the headphones to incorporate their own sounds and words in their Scratch programming projects. Special needs students, as needed, have been using the speak feature in their Google accounts to search and word process projects and to listen to websites and directions read to them. At the end of the year, I plan on trying out screencasting. The quality of the headsets has been a plus. I have only had one set in need of replacement, and it was done promptly. The headsets are a great addition to the implementation of technology in the computer lab." _________________________________________________________________ Grant approved: Therapy Apps! They can also record their speech sounds in words, phrases, sentences and stories and critique their production on the play back. Thanks again for helping me to get this ipad...it has truly been a great addition to some of my therapy sessions. I am now trying to meet the needs of all students to purchase a variety of apps!!" |
